I have two exciting things to share with you: One is my all-new collaboration with Bible Copy Club … and the other is a sneak peek at my upcoming book!
The Collaboration
If you’ve ever wondered if you’d enjoy Scripture writing (the spiritual practice of hand copying the Bible), or if you’d like to try something new with your daily Bible time, I’d love to invite you to my second collaboration with Andy Heddle at Bible Copy Club.
From Monday, November 9 through Friday, November 27, I’ll be sharing meditations and Scripture passages to copy on the topic of “Writing What We Treasure: What the Bible Teaches Us About Writing.” Join me there and let’s spend three weeks together copying out passages from both the Old and New Testaments that relate to how writing is depicted and discussed in the Bible—sometimes literal writing, sometimes not—and how that might apply to our lives today.
What Is Bible Copy Club?
Bible Copy Club is a free subscription that sends daily emails, Monday through Friday. Besides the day’s average of five verses to copy, each email provides two additional, unique elements that help focus your thoughts as you write:
- A short, introductory meditation puts the passage into context, points out things you might have missed, and suggests ways that the day’s verses might apply in your own life. I’m excited to be the guest writer of these meditations for these three weeks in November!
- A bonus “Encouragement” after the passage provides an additional Bible verse or quote to think about or to use as additional material for copying. Andy supplies these, and he always chooses relevant and thoughtful go-along verses or quotes.
What Will You Be Copying?
“Writing What We Treasure: What the Bible Teaches Us About Writing” covers a lot of Bible territory, and I promise you’ll visit or revisit passages in interesting, thought-provoking ways. In the Old Testament, we’ll spend time with several prophets, a famous scribe, and a mandate to kings. In the New Testament, we switch gears (you’ll see why) and learn from Paul, Peter, and John. As always, I’ve tried to make these meditations a truly helpful way to slow down, write out, and think more deeply about God’s Word.
This three-week series is a great way to see if you enjoy writing out Scripture, or to change up what you’ve been doing as we head into the holiday season and Advent (which begins November 29). Use this link to sign up. You don’t need much to get started—any notebook, paper, or journal, and any pen. It doesn’t need to be fancy. Just jump in!
How did I choose the topic for this collaboration with Bible Copy Club, anyway? Well, it just so happens that I was inspired by my own new book! (More details below!)

The Sneak Peek
I’m so excited to share with you something that’s been occupying a great deal of my time lately. I’ve written a book, and Lord willing, it will publish in just a few weeks!

Scripture Writing: How and Why to Copy God’s Word in Your Own Hand will be (as far as I can tell) the first and only book available on this topic. After writing multiple blog posts on Scripture writing, I realized a couple of years ago that there was so much more to share … and that it was better suited to a book format than to more blog posts. Here’s a sneak peek at what you’ll find inside:
- The benefits of Scripture writing, methods to choose from, and how to begin (this includes recent scientific evidence on the tremendous benefits of writing by hand)
- Personal Scripture writing experiences from dozens of others who hand copy Scripture, in their own words (my beta readers loved this section and found it very inspiring)
- Frequently Asked Questions with practical, real-world answers (these are common questions that I’ve heard over the years, and now the answers are all in one place!)
- “Remember the Why” in every chapter that reminds you why you’re taking the time to copy God’s Word, and offers new ways to think or pray about it
- Sample Scripture writing plans you can use right away to get started—in two very different formats, enough for three months of daily writing
We are in final layout and proof stages for the book now, and you are the first to know. I’ll be talking about it on Facebook soon, so please follow me there if you haven’t already. I’ll also announce it here on my blog, of course, as soon as it’s available for sale.
I can’t tell you how grateful I am to everyone who has read my Scripture writing posts, who has talked to me about it in person, and who has encouraged me through this whole process. Above all, I’m grateful to God, who has given me the time and energy to actually write a book, and on a topic that I pray will help others in their walk with him.
